🎫 Step-by-Step: How to Book Forbidden City Tickets

Tickets Must Be Booked Online (No Walk-in)

The Forbidden City (also called the Palace Museum) does not sell tickets at the gate. So all tickets must be booked in advance through the official WeChat Mini Program (search “故宫博物院”)

Ticket Prices (As of 2025)

  • April–October (peak season): 60 RMB
  • November–March (off-season): 40 RMB
  • Optional Treasure Gallery & Clock Hall access: 10–20 RMB extra

💡 You can book tickets up to 7 days in advance. Weekends and holidays sell out fast — book early!

⏰ Best Times to Visit

  • Go in the morning to enjoy cooler temperatures and smaller crowds.
  • Avoid Chinese public holidays like National Day (October 1–7) and Golden Week (early May).
  • Spring (April–June) and Autumn (September–October) are ideal for clear skies and pleasant weather.

🚪 What to Expect on the Day

  • Arrive early. It can take 10–15 minutes to walk to the main entrance from Tiananmen.
  • Bring your passport. It’s required for entry and will be scanned at the gate.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. The Forbidden City is massive — over 900 buildings!

⛳ Pro Tip: After exiting, walk across the street to Jingshan Park. For just 2 RMB, you’ll get the best panoramic view of the entire Forbidden City from above.

Visiting the Forbidden City is one of the most awe-inspiring experiences in Beijing — but only if you plan ahead.

So don’t get stuck at the gates.

Book your ticket early, bring your passport, and pair your palace walk with some real Beijing flavor. You’ll walk away with more than just photos — you’ll feel the history under your feet.🚶
