The Hutong Experience is a three-hour hutong bike tour in Beijing by bicycle or electric scooter. We explore local neighbourhoods, taste street food and share stories of past & present, play traditional games & learn with a team connected to everyday life here. No. If you’re looking to tick off Beijing’s top tourist attractions, this isn’t the experience for you. We don’t run conventional sightseeing tours; we create local experiences that let you join the adventure. Expect hutong backstreets, neighbourhood food stalls, local stories and space for the unexpected.

Hutongs are the lanes and alleyways associated with Beijing’s traditional courtyard neighbourhoods. They’re also places where people live, work, shop and meet. We explore them as living communities, sharing the details and stories that help you understand local life.

We meet at Overtone in Beixinqiao, our friends’ brewery. Our route explores the hutongs around Beixinqiao, Gulou, the lakes and canal-side streets. Stops can change with the day and the group; the route leaves room for what’s happening in the neighbourhood.

Allow three hours. We make time to stop for stories, street food and a traditional game along the way. Tell us about any timing constraints when you send your booking request.

Yes. Choose a bicycle or an electric scooter when you enquire. Groups can mix both. If you’re unsure which suits you, tell us about your riding experience and we’ll discuss the options before confirming your booking.

The standard price is 500 CNY per person by bicycle or 600 CNY per person by electric scooter. Some guests qualify for partner pricing. Use “Check partner pricing” on this page to email us your company name and work email. Our team will confirm eligibility.

Your bicycle or electric scooter, two street food snacks, soft drinks and local lagers are included, alongside local stories and a traditional game. Extra food, coffee, craft beer and other alcoholic drinks are pay as you go.

Let us know your dietary needs when you enquire so we can plan suitable food stops with you. If you have an allergy, tell us the details before booking so we can discuss what’s possible. You’re also welcome to skip the food if you prefer.

Yes. To guarantee a private experience, cover a minimum of five people. Bookings for fewer than five may be opened for other adventurers to join. We can accommodate up to 15 bicycle riders or 10 electric scooter riders; ask us about your group’s preferred mix.

Absolutely—tell us what you have in mind. For private groups, we can discuss particular interests, a celebration or other requests and see what fits the adventure. We’ll agree what’s possible and any additional costs with you before confirming.
