The mountains feel different in winter. Rock, ice and bare ridgelines bring the landscape into sharp focus, while the valley offers a peaceful escape from the city. Our frozen river hike combines that seasonal beauty with an ascent to the Wild Great Wall.

As the route rises, the view opens across the surrounding hills. The unrestored Wall follows the mountains, with uneven stones and steep sections underfoot. Take your time, enjoy the changing scenery and let your guide lead the way.

This route suits hikers comfortable with a moderately challenging mountain day. Cold weather, slippery ground and the climbs on the Wild Wall make it more demanding than a casual walk.

The frozen river is a seasonal feature, not a guarantee. Your guide decides which sections are suitable on the day. Ask us about footwear and traction equipment before setting out, and dress in warm layers.

How long does the frozen river hike take?

Allow around 8–10 hours for the outing. Exact timing depends on travel, conditions and your group’s pace. We confirm the meeting location when you book.

Will we definitely walk on the river ice?

No. Ice and weather conditions vary. Your guide will assess the route and decide which sections are suitable. The itinerary may change to match conditions on the day.

What should I wear?

Prepare for a cold mountain day with warm layers and suitable hiking footwear. Ask us before the trip about current conditions and any recommended traction equipment.

Planning for your group.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs join free of charge. Tell us in advance so we can discuss whether the route and winter conditions are suitable, and plan vehicle space.

Is entering the water part of the hike?

No. You do not need to enter the water to enjoy this adventure. Any request for water activities must be discussed with the team in advance and depends on conditions and suitability.
