Looking for an easy half-day escape into the mountains? The Sangyu Village Loop is a perfect Beijing hike. This 5-kilometer trail offers a gentle Beijing experience that combines a historic stone path, a tranquil Ming Dynasty temple, and scenic views, all within a short drive from the city.
This loop packs history, culture, and nature into a short walk, showcasing the beautiful Mentougou District. Follow this classic path:
1. Sangyu Village Start (桑峪村出发)
Begin your adventure in this historic Ming-era village, nestled in the hills.
2. The Ancient Road: Jingxi Path (万桑段)
Connect to the Jingxi Ancient Road, walking on its original, well-preserved bluestone slabs—once trodden by merchants and travelers centuries ago.
3. The Quiet Temple: Guanghui Temple (广惠寺)
The trail leads to the secluded Guanghui Temple. Here, you’ll find a magnificent 500-year-old ginkgo tree and peaceful halls, a serene highlight of this Beijing hike.
4. The Mountain Vista: Dingdu Pavilion (定都阁外观)
Continue upward for panoramic canyon views near Dingdu Pavilion. Note: The pavilion itself is closed for safety, but the surrounding vista, especially with spring blossoms, is stunning.
5. The Return (返回桑峪村)
Complete your Beijing day trip by looping back down to the tranquil Sangyu Village.
