Planning to visit Beijing’s most iconic landmark, the Forbidden City? Whether you’re a first-time traveler or a seasoned explorer, getting tickets to this historic site can be a bit confusing — especially for international visitors. But don’t worry — we’ve broken it all down for you.
Tickets Must Be Booked Online (No Walk-in)
The Forbidden City (also called the Palace Museum) does not sell tickets at the gate. So all tickets must be booked in advance through the official WeChat Mini Program (search “故宫博物院”)
Ticket Prices (As of 2025)
💡 You can book tickets up to 7 days in advance. Weekends and holidays sell out fast — book early!
⛳ Pro Tip: After exiting, walk across the street to Jingshan Park. For just 2 RMB, you’ll get the best panoramic view of the entire Forbidden City from above.
So don’t get stuck at the gates.
Book your ticket early, bring your passport, and pair your palace walk with some real Beijing flavor. You’ll walk away with more than just photos — you’ll feel the history under your feet.🚶
